Buying a Family Home

Buying a Family Home  – Carmel Westfield

The old saying holds true for so many American families…first comes love, then comes marriage, then comes the baby in the baby carriage. Then what after that? The next step for many is purchasing a home where they can raise their new, growing family.

If you’re a starting a new family right now and need a home, there are a couple important aspects to consider as you search for a family home:

Get Pre-Approval – as a young family, more than likely you’re just starting out in your careers and creating a family budget. Getting pre-approval helps you determine how much home you can afford so that you do not end up house poor. I can help you find a reliable and honest lender who will walk you through the mortgage process.

Think Long-Term — Your needs as a family will change over the years, so take into consideration your future needs, as well as current needs, and find a house that fits both. Ask yourself, will we have enough bedrooms and living space for our current children and any future children? Will this yard work for when the kids are older? Am I satisfied with the schools?

Be Practical – Make sure the area you’re looking in has the amenities you’ll want and need as a young family. Being near downtown nightlife and restaurants may sound convenient as a childless couple or single person, but when you do have kids things like parks and schools will be more important. Ask yourself, will this neighborhood fit our lifestyle and phase in life with kids?

When you’re ready to take that next step for your family, give me a call and I can help you find your family home.
